THE drawbridges will be raised and the oil paintings mothballed as
workers at historic sites around the country prepare to go on strike.
Members of the Prospect Union who work for English Heritage will
mark the Summer solstice on June 21 with synchronised walk-outs at
sites across the UK - including Whitby Abbey and Scarborough Castle.
The action, which could lead to disappointment for visitors, is in
protest at a Government pay award which union leaders say provides an
average increase of only 1.5% for the staff.
In a wave of disruption, staff in the north will leave their posts
between 10am and noon, while their colleagues in the south, including
the Saville Row London ...
