At least Brightwood School is still standing. I wish I could
say the same for so many of the places that I remember from my
childhood in upper Northwest Washington.
And now they tell me the University Pastry Shop in the 3200
block of Wisconsin Avenue is going to close on April 20. Is this
then, the end of civilization as we know it in upper Northwest?
The University Pastry Shop had hot doughnuts. You could smell
them on the street. Hot, as in the glaze from the honey-dipped would
run down your thumb and onto your cuff. I knew there was life after
the Silver Spring Hot Shoppe closed, but the passing of the
University Pastry Shop will be a big hit.
