WHEN Church Army captain John Hotchin and his wife Hilary took over a tough inner city parish they were given a baptism of fire by troublemakers who regarded the church grounds as their "turf".

St George's and the rectory in Marfleet, Hull, had been empty for nearly two years as the Church of England struggled to find someone to move in.
