Article: Charity looking for best beach donkeys

A Devon donkey charity was visiting the north Yorkshire coast yesterday to kick off a nationwide hunt to find Britain's best beach donkey.

Experts from the Donkey Sanctuary were meeting a group of beach donkeys in Scarborough as part of an annual contest which promotes high standards of animal welfare.

Under the initiative donkeys and their owners compete for two national award titles - the best individual beach donkey and the best group of beach donkeys in Britain.

Following a series of regional contests the donkeys from Scarborough will now go up against rival herds from Blackpool, Barmouth, Gunnislake, Rhyl, Skegness and Weymouth.
