[Pounds]1.5m project will reconnect two city buildings after 50 years

ONE OF the best-known public spaces in Leeds will close later this month to allow a major [Pounds]1.5m makeover to get under way, it was announced last night.

Leeds City Art Gallery will shut for a project which will see it connected for the first time in more than half a century to the Central Library next door when an archway is reopened.

Work on the archway will also open up the Victorian Tiled Hall - a room hidden to the public for more than 50 years that contains many of its original features.

When the work is completed next May, the room will be filled with a new shop, cafe, computers and comfortable ...
