IAN Paisley and Martin McGuinness - once the deadliest of enemies -
stood shoulder to shoulder in Belfast yesterday to clear the way for
a new era of peace and cooperation in Northern Ireland.
On an occasion unlike any other inside the Parliament Buildings at
Stormont - high on drama and full of emotion - they officially signed
up to the deal of a lifetime as they pledged themselves to a future
power-sharing government and delivered Prime Minister Tony Blair his
greatest domestic triumph.
However, what was a joyous occasion was also tinged with sadness
as the Assembly adjourned its session for nominating ministers for a
half an hour as a mark of respect for the Democratic Unionist
assembly ...
