IN THIS TOWN, charity dinners and political benefits are a
common occurrence. But Saturday night the local dance community
turns out for a more unconventional fund-raising tribute. The
honoree is Carla Perlo, the modern dancer and administrator whose
perseverance and vision are in large part the reason why Dance Place
recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
In 1980, Perlo and her husband, musician Steve Bloom, purchased
and refurbished the building in Brookland that became Dance Place, a
permanent home for local, national and foreign modern and ethnic
