After a savage attack by a pit-bull terrier on a 6-year-old
girl, Britain today announced a ban on imports of the American-bred
fighting dogs and officials threatened to order the killing of
10,000 of the breed already living here.
Rucksana Khan of the northern city of Bradford suffered
shattered ribs, a lacerated left lung, a broken nose, two lost
teeth, serious facial damage and up to 25 bites on her back when the
dog clenched her in its jaws and slammed her body repeatedly against
the pavement. Photographs from the hospital of her bruised face
dominated today's front pages.
