Security Minister Jane Kennedy promises action

CCTV cameras will be erected on either side of an east Belfast interface where there has been vicious rioting, it was announced today.

Security MinisterJane Kennedysaid consideration was being given to the location of the cameras and the system would be put in place over the coming weeks.

She said the cameras in the nationalist Short Strand and surrounding loyalist areas would both "enhance community safety and bring some reassurance to beleaguered communities".

Ms Kennedy added she had been encouraged by the success of the PSNI's use of CCTV in north Belfast.
