Article: Date-rape drugs 'can be detected'

POLICE in Londonderry today said they could test for date-rape drugs at medical facilities after it emerged the check was not available at Altnagelvin Hospital.

The hospital admitted this week that although there was a small but steady stream of people at their casualty department who may have been drugged without their knowledge, it was unable to carry out routine tests for date-rape drugs.

However, police today said that when someone went to hospital for treatment after rape and asked for police, a forensic doctor would check for the drugs in the victim's system.
