Edward J. Banas, 91, who was a special agent with the Intelligence
Branch of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, died Jan. 29 at
his home in Falls Church. The cause of death was cardiac arrest due
to complications from diabetes.
Mr. Banas retired in 1975 after more than 30 years with the U.S.
Treasury Department.
He was born in Wallington, N.J., and graduated from Rutgers
University in 1937. He then became a certified public accountant.
After retirement, he taught accounting at American University and
at Northern Virginia Community College. An active volunteer with a
strong financial background, he was a valued consultant and treasurer
for the Friends of John Paul II Foundation, ...
