AROUND 6,000 people were expected to descend onto the streets of
Belfast today to take part in the annual May Day Parade.
Organised by the Northern Ireland committee of the Irish Congress
of Trade Unions (ICTU) the parade is being followed by a family
festival at Saint George's Market.
This year's parade will feature samba and Lambeg drummers as well
as giant puppets and a colourful Chinese dragon, with this year's
theme based on rejecting sectarianism and celebrating diversity in
Northern Ireland.
Clare Moore from the ICTU said today's theme reflected the bread
and butter work of local trade unions ...
