"BEWARE the soft bigotry of low expectations". The pregnant words
of one of the speakers dropped like a bombshell into the Right to
Work Conference held by Newry and Mourne deaf club at the Canal Court
Hotel on Tuesday.
There were talks on Employment Law, Government legislation,
Training and Employment Services for employers and employees, the
Trade Union approach and a series of small sketches dramatising the
difficulty experienced by deaf people in places such as libraries and
restaurants.
But it was not until ex-MLA and former minister Denis Haughey
began his speech that the deeper meaning of the words "soft bigotry"
