CHURCH of Ireland Primate, Archbishop Robin Eames, spoke today of
the 'immense difficulties' ahead as he chairs a special commission
established in the wake of the ordination of a gay bishop in the
United States.
The first formal session of the commission, which was set up by
the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, following the
consecration of Bishop Gene Robinson, is next week.
It will be held at St George's, Windsor, and includes 17 eminent
Church of England leaders, lawyers and theologians under the
chairmanship of Dr Eames.
The Archbishop has successfully chaired two previous Anglican
Commissions on women's ordination, and theology and doctrine.
