SINN Fein was firmly called to account today for continuing IRA
violence, including the abduction of dissident republican Bobby
Tohill.
The International Monitoring Commission, the ceasefire watchdog
set up by London, Dublin and Washington, has said the party must bear
responsibility for the IRA's actions, according to well-placed
sources familiar with the report.
As a result the British government - with significant backing from
Dublin - were preparing to impose financial penalties on Sinn Fein's
Assembly team. The Progressive Unionist Party, which is associated
with the UVF, will also be hit over continuing loyalist violence.
