The Rev. Lowell P. Beveridge, 86, an Episcopal priest and
retired professor of speech and music at Virginia Theological
Seminary in Alexandria, died June 18 at Shady Grove Adventist
Hospital in Rockville after a heart attack.
Dr. Beveridge, who lived in Alexandria, was born in Boston. He
graduated from Harvard University, where he also received a
doctorate in musicology. He did further study at the Royal College
of Music in London.
From 1930 to 1952, he was on the faculty at Columbia University
in New York as professor of music and conductor of the Columbia
Chapel Choir, the Columbia Glee Club and the Barnard College Glee
Club. He also was university organist at Columbia. From 1944 until ...
