A nurse was today recovering after a patient tried to strangle her
in an open ward at a top Ulster hospital.The terrified nurse was
assaulted just 15 minutes after arriving on the short- stay ward,
just off the accident and emergency unit at Antrim Area Hospital.The
incident, which took place on Saturday night, comes just days after
nursing leaders from all over the UK gathered in Belfast to call for
a zero tolerance approach to those who attack nurses and other health
service staff.A hospital source said: "The patient attempted first to
kick the nurse."He then grabbed her by the throat with both hands. "A
