Do airlines give any thought to the music that warbles out of
the tinny loudspeakers aboard flights before take-off and after
landing? When a much-delayed Binter Canarias flight from Marrakesh to
Las Palmas touched down, the cabin was filled with Simply Red's
rendition of "If You Don't Know Me by Now". We clock-watchers noted
that the track began half way through, just before the line "When I
come home a little late at night..."
The Portuguese national
carrier, TAP Portugal, goes one better. As the Airbus prepared to
leave Heathrow, the economy cabin was treated to "A Whiter Shade of
Pale", which left one or two nervous passengers even more ashen-
