Article: Men's hockey: Bann aim to shine but don't expect to make final friends

Going on tour is nothing new for hockey players but normally such trips are closer to home than the one which the Bann boys took part in at the tail end of last year.

The players headed for South Africa in preparation for the business end of the season which will culminate in tomorrow's decider.

They were accompanied by master-in-charge Mark Cordner and under- 14 coach Scott McCindless.

Also making the visit to the southern hemisphere were two other Banbridge First XI stars - Irish international striker Eugene Magee and Simon Magowan.
