At Yankee Stadium, the Sistine Chapel of sports where Ruth,
DiMaggio, Mantle, Munson and other pin-striped gods have played and
the rest of us took their miracles for granted, a crystalline sun
burns through a Bronx haze. On top of all else - a hint of a
headwind blowing in from right field, friendly ushers who smile and
don't expect a tip for it - it's nearly a too-rich blessing for a
mere baseball game.
Not this one, though. It's the greatest and most memorable one
I've ever seen: One of my boys was pitching in it. I haven't been to
a cardiologist of late to check on how many cockles are in my heart
or how they are holding up, but all of them on this unforgettable
day were well ...
