Bob Vila remembers the first house he ever built. It had only
one room. Eventually, it became part of a nice middle-class
neighborhood, and he understands that it is now used as a community
center.
It's located in Panama City.
That first, modest building came to mind as television's
leading home-building and renovating guru sat in the dining room of
the luxurious Hay Adams Hotel. His table was practically within
sight of the Ellipse, where a bit earlier in the day he had enjoyed
a nice moment on the "Today" show.
Vila, proprietor of "Home Again With Bob Vila," was still
wearing the Peace Corps T-shirt he'd worn on camera as "Today's"
ubiquitous Willard Scott had interviewed him ...
