Some say it rhymes with hazel, and some say it rhymes with
dazzle. But no matter how basil is pronounced, this flavorful and
fragrant herb is one of the world's most popular.
Minced, fresh basil adorns fresh tomato and mozzarella salad
dribbled with olive oil. And packed into blenders by the cupful,
along with a little olive oil, freshly grated parmesan cheese and
pignoli (pine nuts), it becomes pesto - the quintessential summer
topping for pasta.
Dried or fresh, basil is a good source of calcium and the trace
minerals phosphorus, copper and manganese. It's also high in
