Article: Second Helping: Try ground ham instead of beef

How many holiday parties have you been to where meatballs buling away in a slow cooker are the piece de resistance on the buffet table?

I suggest a substitute. Ground ham balls which I find tastier and a nice change from those made with ground beef.

The biggest problem with making ham balls or ham loaf is that it's next to impossible to buy ground ham in the stores unless you have a private butcher who will cut or grind the meat to your specifications.

Coming from Pennsylvania, I was accustomed to finding ground ham readily available. And ham loaf was a popular Sunday dinner, not only for home cooks but also often on the menu in the local restaurants.

But my search for ground ham has ended ...
