Article: Golf: Aspiring pros understand it's not just fun and games

In case anyone thought becoming a golf pro was a breeze, a pair of county residents, Jason Poknis and Bran Smack, can argue otherwise.

Poknis, 30, and Smack, 28, are both aspiring PGA Professionals, a process that can take anywhere from two to four years to accomplish.

Contrary to what some might think, there's more to becoming a PGA Professional than just being able to break par a lot. And, just because you're a golf pro doesn't mean you pass the work day by hitting that little, white ball.

"There's definitely a misconception (about PGA Professionals)," said Smack, an Annapolis resident. "It's a business. You have to be dedicated; it takes a lot of time and it's quite an investment."
