2 sticks of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 cup sugar or more to taste
1/2 gallon burgundy
2 cups port wine
20 to 25 thin lemon slices, optional
50 whole cloves, optional
Break cinnamon sticks into one-inch pieces. Mix first six
ingredients and heat on stove, stirring occasionally. When mixture
steams, pour into fondue pot or chafing dish to keep warm while
serving. Do not allow to simmer at any time. Stud each lemon slice
with two cloves. Float several on top of mixture. Serve in punch
cups. Top each cup with a lemon slice. May be made ahead and reheated
when serving. Serves 16
