Germs, germs, everywhere

Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Those three words may be your best defense against getting a nasty cold.

And if you already have one? In that case they may help you from spreading your cold germs to family, friends and coworkers.

Proper hand washing gets rid of 95 percent of most germs, according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. And with over 200 viruses blamed for causing over one billion colds a year in the United States, that's handy information to have.

But while hand washing is so effective against the spread of germs, astonishingly, one in three people do not wash after using the restroom, says the NIAID. Guess they don't wash at other times either.
