Have you been to a tasting party lately? Forget the wine, beer or water tastings, be the first on your block to host an olive oil party.

Selecting the right olive oil for cooking or eating is as challenging as picking out a wine. But unlike wine, olive oil doesn't age well. The current year's crop is the best.

According to Mary Giolitti, who owns Giolitti's Delicatessen in Annapolis, many Italians won't use last year's olive oil.

"By 2006, the 2005 bottles are discarded," she said.

But then, most Italians don't have this problem since their daily diet, like Mrs. Giolitti's, consists of a salad drizzled with olive oil.
