Arundel guard Danae Brownlee lay on her back, eyes closed,
stunned, tears welling.
"I didn't even want to get up, really," Brownlee said, remembering
the blocking foul called against her with seconds left in last
season's 4A East Region final. "I started crying right there because
I thought it was over."
And it was, 45-43, after South River sunk the two free throws.
For Brownlee, a senior, today's 4A state semifinal against
Gaithersburg at UMBC's RAC Arena is her chance at a sweet ending
after the bitter pill that was last year's loss.
"It feels good," she said. "It's like we've gained something back
that we lost."
