Trees have age rings; humans have small, specialized kitchen
appliances and equipment to mark the stages of their lives.
Those who date their first kitchen to the late 1960s had to
merely dust off their fondue pots and pressure cookers when the fads
fluttered anew last year. Twenty years from now, it's liable to be
fajita pans and woks.
Today, however, housewares manufacturers are providing the
possibility of a renaissance for the grilled cheese sandwich maker.
Those of us old enough to vividly remember John Kennedy as
president also remember grilled cheese sandwich makers. Every house
seemed to have one, and some of them were "convertible" into waffle
irons with a change of plates.
