Article: North County team tops cheerleading contest

In a powder blue gymnasium that throed with wall-shaking music, cheerleading squads representing 11 of the county's high schools turned out last night to battle for bragging rights and an invitation to the Regional Championship cheerleading contest on Valentine's Day.

At the fiercely competitive County Cheerleading Championship hosted by Pasadena's Chesapeake High School, each team adhered to a basic performance structure: The members would face the judges and in rock or rap format loudly announce that they were No. 1.
