It was just another day in the life of the American League East's less-than-overwhelming front-runners. A sellout crowd showed up at the SkyDome tonight to watch the Toronto Blue Jays suffer an excruciating 2-1 defeat to the California Angels, and then everyone went home and waited for the Boston Red Sox to find a way to lose too.

It almost happened, but not quite. The Red Sox blew a 6-0 lead, but scored late to edge the Brewers, 9-8, in Milwaukee.
