In a divisional tussle no one seemed to want to win, even the
Toronto Blue Jays now would be hard-pressed to find a way to lose.
The Blue Jays put the American League East race practically to rest
tonight, riding the pitching handiwork of surging rookie starter
Juan Guzman to a 5-2 triumph over the California Angels before a
SkyDome sellout of 50,322.
Guzman's 10th straight victory, with second-place Boston's loss
to Detroit, clinched the Blue Jays at least a tie for the division
title. Toronto restored its lead over the Red Sox to 4 1/2 games,
and the Blue Jays need only to win one of their remaining four
games, or for Boston to lose one of its five, to secure their third
AL East crown ...
