Article: Annapolis skipper enjoys reversal in Governor's Cup

People are calling the 31st St. Mary's College of Maryland College Governor's Cup Race one of the best ever. When the race went off from the mouth of the Severn River near Annapolis just after 6 p.m. on Friday, headed 70 miles down the Chesapeake and up into the Potomac and St. Mary's rivers to finish at Maryland's original capital, brisk northerly breeze sent the fleet of 152 starters on a downwind sleigh ride.

It's been 10 years since this race featured a downwind start and a fast run down the bay. That 1994 race also included a tragedy when Annapolis sailor Steve Bickell lost his life when he was hit by the boom in an accidental gybe.
