Joyce Thomann exercises her right to vote at every election, but
on Nov. 2 she might not step into a polling station.
A longtime county election judge, Mrs. Thomann is considering
voting absentee because she has serious concerns about Maryland's
controversial new electronic voting machines.
"Absentee ballots have a paper trail," said Mrs. Thomann, an
Amberley resident who voted absentee in the primaries this year. "My
main concern (with the voting machines) is that there is no way to
have an accurate recount. And that's a concern shared by several
election judges here."
Maryland is one of the few states that will go all-electronic on
