The Toronto Blue Jays, hardly a team renowned for its
late-season grace, closed out the American League East race
oh-so-stylishly tonight.
On an evening in which they became the first club to surpass 4
million in home attendance in a season, the Blue Jays sent the
SkyDome's sellout, towel-waving crowd of 50,324 into a frenzy. They
clinched their third AL East crown in seven years with a dramatic,
6-5 victory over the California Angels on two ninth-inning runs
against relief ace Bryan Harvey.
The Blue Jays had squandered a 4-3 lead to trail 5-4 entering
