Covering The Bases: Take pick of Medicare docs

I will be eligible for Medicare in February. Right now I am covered by a plan through my former employer. I have to go to doctors in their network if I want the plan to pay for my care. If I use Medicare as my primary insurance and buy a Medigap plan, will I still have to go to network doctors?

No. With Medicare and a Medigap policy, you will be able to receive care from any provider who accepts Medicare.

This does not necessarily mean that you will have to find new doctors when you become Medicare-eligible. Your current providers may be willing to continue seeing you, provided that they are Medicare providers.
