West River Sailing Club will host a 50th anniversary celebration
of the Albacore class this weekend.
A strong fleet of 26 boats will compete for the U.S. National
Championship, being held Saturday through Monday on the West River.
Additionally, another 25-30 "vintage" Albacores are expected to
participate in a Saturday afternoon cruise.
Peter Duncan, a Severna Park resident and current president of the
U.S. Albacore Association, said several wooden boats from the 1950s
will be on display during the weekend. A dinner banquet Saturday
night at WRSC will feature a slide show and speeches from longtime
Albacore owners.
