Few people can capture the very essence of New Orleans. Its pain.
Its joy. Its slow, humid summer nights. Its unwillingness to change
for anyone. Hollywood regularly fails. Photos and videos can't do it.
And some of the best authors miss salient points.
The city depends on its ambassadors, namely jazz musicians, to
relay the message. And there aren't many who do it better than the
Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
For two hours Sunday, one of the Big Easy's most distinguished
bands managed to turn Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts into one
big, festive party.
The group opened the evening with a documentary, a nice touch that
was as educational as it was promotional for future visitors to the ...
