Article: Dog with slashed throat is expected to survive

The trail of blood led from the parking lot of a Millersville school through a field and across a road before petering out.

At first, county police weren't sure what it led to, and they called in several officers and a state police dog to search the area Monday morning.

No one expected what they found on Mattawa Court, about a mile from Rockbridge Academy: a bleeding, cream-colored 65-pound Labrador mix whose throat had been slit.

The dog was rushed to nearby Bay Country Veterinary Hospital, where he was in good condition last night. He was expected to be taken to the county Animal Control shelter in Millersville by Friday.
