Article: Cityscape: City doesn't need security pork

In a recent letter to The Capital, Mayor Ellen O. Moyer blew off a head of steam about her new Homeland Security gifts.

With barely disguised contempt, she claimed that the paper's cartoonist, reporters and editorial writers simply didn't get the importance of these devices or how they were financed.

Sorry to disappoint you, Ms. Moyer, but we do indeed understand where the money came from and how it is being used. We just think the whole idea is a bit silly.

With much hoopla and fanfare, city officials have rolled out a state-of-the-art armored vehicle, a bomb-handling robot and some decontamination geegaws for everyone to admire.
