Welcome back to the madness of a postseason night in the
Metrodome, where baseballs whiz by on the plastic grass or sail
along unseen against the backdrop of a synthetic sky. It was a
purist's nightmare tonight as the 23rd American League Championship
Series opened amid a flurry of air-conditioner-blown fly balls and
popups lost in the white ceiling.
But the Minnesota Twins, no purists, had no complaints. The
Domeball series began with the Twins striking early and holding on
to beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4, before a hanky-waving crowd of
54,766 to jump on top in this best-of-seven playoff.
