Samuel E. Shropshire wants you to forget Jeff Collins.
Mr. Collins made quite a name for himself. The chair of the
Annapolis Democratic Central Committee, Mr. Collins helped found the
Maritime Republic of Eastport and created Love & Action, an AIDS
outreach group.
It was all a ruse. Mr. Collins was an alias for Mr. Shropshire - a
shield to protect his wife's family from Communist reprisals after
the couple testified about religious persecution during the Cold War.
Since the Iron Curtain's collapse 16 years ago, the Annapolis man
has yearned for people to call him by his real name.
But it hasn't worked.
So Mr. Shropshire, 57, is holding a party at his home Friday in a
push to retire his fake ...
