BALTIMORE - When the Orioles were failing in their attempts to
upgrade their team through trades, someone in the organization came
up with the reasoning that when the club got pitcher Erik Bedard and
catcher Javy Lopez back from the disabled list it would, in effect,
be tantamount to a trade.
Bedard was activated on July 18 and has pitched two outstanding
six-inning stints. He lost one of the starts but he has allowed a
total of three earned runs, walked only three and struck out 13.
Lopez rejoined the Orioles on Monday and after working out some of
the kinks and stiffness in his first outing made rationalization
about the return of the top pitcher and starting catcher seem
