The Pittsburgh Pirates are chop-shocked. The whooping,
tomahawk-chopping surroundings of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium
continued to be a house of horrors for the Pirates, who today
watched the Atlanta Braves score early and often en route to a 10-3
victory before a sellout crowd of 50,905 in Game 3 of the National
League Championship Series.
The Braves used their first-ever postseason win in Atlanta to
grab a two-to-one lead in this best-of-seven playoff, and the 1991
Pirates fell to 0-7 here. This previously tight, pitching-dominated
series took an abrupt turn this afternoon as the Braves' bats
finally proved to be more sturdy than the foam tomahawks so popular
among the locals.
