After only 2 years in operation, the Respite Home on South Haven
has closed and an assisted-living facility has taken its place.
Though the 10-bedroom house in Heritage Harbour was touted as the
only home in the state dedicated solely to respite care, organizers
said they overestimated demand for the service.
"There was nobody really at fault," said Ralph Reeder, president
of the board of directors of the Heritage Harbour Health Group, which
ran the respite home.
In its place will be a long-term home for sufferers of Alzheimer's
disease and dementia. Jan Nuscher of Annapolis bought the 10-bedroom
home on Dec. 30 for $1.7 million and will use it to house her
assisted-living facility, La Casa.
