Language is a means of communication, but does the school board
agree with the dictionary? Sign language matches this definition, yet
is not honored as a language credit throughout Anne Arundel County
High Schools. Fellow languages such as Spanish, French, and German
each receive one-half credit per semester while Sign Language is
seemingly shunned from this group. This issue has created a mild
controversy throughout Chesapeake High School, resulting in a spew of
protests.
"Sign Language is just as challenging as any other language," said
Logan Burke. "We do just as much work as any other language student
and we deserve the credit."
