TOWSON (AP) - Three Maryland counties ranked among the most
successful in the country at narrowing the achievement gap between
black and white male students, according to a new study.
Some experts argued however, that the report - which compared 2004
graduation rates - says more about the demographics of Baltimore,
Montgomery and Prince George's counties than the efforts of the
school systems.
African-American boys in Baltimore County had an 80 percent
graduation rate in 2004, compared with 81 percent for white boys,
according to the report by the Cambridge, Mass.-based Schott
Foundation for public research.
