If you're a woman and you've always wanted to be a member of
Congress, 1992 could be your year.
That's the view of a wide spectrum of politicians, poll-takers
and consultants who say that the popular mood of disgust with
conventional - read male - politics makes female candidates the
hottest commodity around.
The potential for female candidates existed even before the
flare-up over the Senate's handling of sexual harassment charges
against Clarence Thomas, political consultants said. Groups that
support female candidates hope that anger among women - especially
those inclined toward feminism and liberalism - will encourage women
to run.
