Billy Graham, now 73, chose well when he asked William Martin,
a professor of sociology at Rice University, to write this
biography. He gave Martin (himself an evangelist at the age of 14)
full cooperation and agreed to make no changes in what he wrote. The
result is a mammoth, heavily detailed, insider's portrait of Graham
that far surpasses anything yet written about him. Martin is
especially good at noting Graham's inconsistencies, mental dodges
and unrelenting urge to cozy up to people of power. He presents
