Article: City Dock work cost balloons to $8.8M

The cost of bulkhead replacements and other improvements to City Dock has ballooned to nearly $9 million dollars for the pending yearlong project.

Costs for the extensive renovation more than doubled after officials underestimated the amount of materials needed for installation of new steel bulkheads and the State Department of Natural Resources requested electrical and pier improvements, according to budget revision requests.

Donna Hole, city chief of historic preservation, said visually, the dock area will change very little, but will be better organized and safer.
